Week 18 Bump Update

week18

Baby’s Size: An heirloom tomato. Not to be confused with a regular tomato… we would hate to be inaccurate.

Baby’s Progress: Baby is developing his/her smell, taste, hearing, vision and touch. Baby weighs about 8.5 ounces, and could be growing hair.  And hopefully baby will be super cooperative tomorrow at the sonogram and show us whether it is a he or she… probably baby is as tired as we are of referring to it as an it.

Weight Gain: I’ve gained another half a pound, I keep expecting to step on the scale (I check every Sunday) to have gained 2 or 3 lbs, but I guess slow and steady is a good thing.  My mom friends tell me I’ll be laughing at the end of my pregnancy when I’ve gained 40 lbs about my excitement to be up half a pound, but it is crazy to me that my body weight can shift enough to really look PREGNANT but not have the weight gain to show for it!

Sleep: Sleep is getting more elusive… I have definitely had a few moments of can’t get comfortable so I can’t fall asleep, so I can only imagine as I get closer to the end how uncomfortable I’m going to get.  Reese spend a couple nights away leading a confirmation retreat this weekend, which gave me the motivation to sleep with the giant pregnancy pillow I have… sadly for Reese I discovered how great these things are… so now it’s me, husband and GINORMOUS pillow in our queen bed every night.  Lucky husband!

Milestones: I can’t really think of any major milestones on the baby side of life, but we did decide to hire a house painter, so the nursery will finally be the color we want for it! (see the paint swatch behind my head in the photo above? I was testing out paint colors and forgot this was the spot with the best lighting in our new house, so… pose with the test swatch!!)  Oh… and I finally got my haircut… and added bangs!

Favorite clothing item of the week: I tried out a long sleeve t-shirt dress from Gap Maternity (its a little older since it’s a hand me down from a friend but similar to this one… mine is just right above knee length) and it was super cute and super comfy!

Symptoms: Gloriously I am mostly symptom free for the moment so I am just enjoying this time and trying to use it to my full advantage! This isn’t really a symptom, but this week I have really been craving a glass of wine.  I’m not a huge drinker, but definitely enjoy a glass of wine when I am out to dinner or over with friends, and twice this week I’ve been around people drinking and just REALLY REALLY wanted a glass.  I know some people/doctors say that a small amount on occasion is no big deal, but since I’m already drinking a small amount of caffeine (totally approved by my doc) I decided I’m going to abstain from alcohol the whole pregnancy.

Workout: I went to Camp Gladiator once last week, and have been trying to get in a few walks.  I’m pretty amazed at how tired I get… I don’t really feel all that different than my pre-pregnant self, so it kind of amazes me how much changes when you are pregnant!

Week 17 Bump Update

So I don’t know if it is the way I’m standing, what I ate last week or what, but I feel like I looked more preggo in last weeks bump picture than this, but alas… this is the picture from this week! I also should probably quit taking them after I wake up from my Sunday afternoon naps, but since those don’t feel like they are going away any time soon… this is what we are left with!

On with the update:

week17 Baby’s Size: We will return to the boring vegetable references this week: Baby is the size of a Green Pepper.  Mostly because I love green pepper and no one else had a clever reference I could steal 🙂

Baby’s Progress: Baby is moving around a lot (although I’ve felt a few flutters that *might* be baby movement, it’s awfully hard to tell), and his/her ears are in their final position, but are sticking out of the head more than normal (although if you’ve seen my elementary school pictures this is likely to be a trait that sticks around this little munchkin for a while).

Weight Gain: I’ve gained a half a pound.  And I’ve been eating like a champion lately (thank you trip to Kansas City) We go back to the doctor next week, so this lack of weight gain will definitely be one of my big questions.

Sleep: Sleep hasn’t changed much since last week, so yay for midnight (more like 2 am) trips to the potty.

Milestones: Didn’t really have any major milestones this week, except that I learned that long car trips are going to be increasingly more difficult.  I had to take one for work this week to Kansas City, and I’ll be taking it slow on my road warrior status here in the next few months.

Favorite clothing item of the week: a tunic and leggings that I’ve had for a while, but definitely have some room to grow in it for the next several months!

Symptoms: Fortunately most of the symptoms that the books and websites talk about having in the second trimester haven’t struck too strongly yet (like heartburn, leg cramps, etc).  I’m still holding on to the occasional round of extreme nausea and my sense of smell has never been stronger, but for now I’m grateful to still be able to sleep at night and to have no leg cramps or heartburn yet!

Workout: This was a good week! I returned to my pre-pregnancy Camp Gladiator workout and just did some slight modifications (I didn’t do the exercises where you lay on your back, and mostly went at my own pace), I also accompanied a friend in KC to Overland Park Crossfit on Saturday morning and had a great workout.  Both my friend (who was my partner for the partner exercises) and the instructor knew I was preggo, so we did some slight modifications.  Both workouts felt great, and besides being a little sore (yikes Quads!) it felt great to be working out.  I also managed to get out and take a walk yesterday in the GORGEOUS spring weather which helped stretch out my sore quads.  I hope to keep working out throughout at least the second trimester, but I’m also not pushing myself too hard!

Baby Update Week 15

You know, this whole pregnancy thing is a very surreal experience.  I mean… you don’t really feel any different than normal you, but at the same time you don’t really feel like you. I know… profound huh? This is one of those weeks that I really feel pregnant.  If you can’t tell by the picture… I definitely have a bump now.  Although can I say, I don’t know if it is the angle or the lunch I had, but I don’t feel like I really have as big of a bump as that picture shows.  But since I picked it out of the 15 or so pictures I made Reese take of me Sunday… it is probably more accurate than my mental image of myself. (although I’m still going to claim bad lighting due to sleeping through the good lighting hours to take this picture… I am really ready for it to stay lighter longer!)

week15

Alright, weekly update time:

Week 15 Recap

Baby’s Size: an avocado (or a grenade if you follow pregnant chicken’s weekly updates)

Baby’s Progress: Baby can now hear! And baby is about to double in weight and add several inches in length.  Baby is also pumping 25 quarts of blood a day… which feels like an enormous amount considering that baby is currently 4.5 inches long.

Weight Gain: 0lbs… and somehow this feels like an accomplishment! Back to my starting point… although part of me is wondering what that whole bump thing is made of since I haven’t really gained any weight, but DEFINITELY look pregnant!

Sleep: Other than my nightly trip to the bathroom, I am sleeping pretty well, although I can tell that rolling over to the other side is going to be a huge chore in just a few short weeks/months, so I’m trying to enjoy the sleep while I can!

Milestones: I bought and wore my first pair of maternity clothes- a pair of black dress pants. And speaking of, I’m going to add a new category–favorite clothing item of the week:

Favorite clothing item of the week: definitely the black dress pants (these from Loft) because I love the combo of petite pants for my short little legs and the awesome stretchy band to hold them up.  Although I’m sure I’ll get tired of them by the end, I’m a fan right now!

Symptoms: Right now my only real symptom is that I tire out much faster than I used to… I’m hoping a little exercise in my future will help with some of that, but for now I’m just trying to do what I can do!

Workout: I bought a new DVD… does that count? I plan on starting it this next week, so hopefully next week will have a more productive answer for this question.
